The Badminton Association of India has unveiled an 18-member squad for the 2026 BWF World Junior Championships, set to take place in Cairo, Egypt.
The team will be captained by Tanvi Patry, who recently claimed the Asian Under-17 championship, along with continental silver medalist Shaina Manimuthu and India Junior International Grand Prix winner Dev Rooparelia.
The selection was made following trials held at the National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati from September 18 to 21, under the guidance of the junior selection committee.
The Suhandinata Cup team event will run from October 5 to 10. The fifth-seeded Indian team, which secured a bronze medal in the previous tournament, has been placed in Group D1 alongside Peru and Brazil. To qualify for the quarter-finals, India must top Group D1 and win a playoff against the winner of Group D2, which includes ninth-seeded Indonesia, Macau China, and Senegal.
According to the BWF Council, the Suhandinata Cup will be played under a new 3×55 relay scoring system, while the individual events of the ‘I Level Cup,’ scheduled from October 11 to 17, will utilize a 3×15 scoring system. To prepare for the championship, the team will attend a specialized world junior camp in Guwahati from September 25 to October 2.
In the girls’ singles, Patry and Manimuthu will be joined by Parul Chaudhary and Tanvi Reddy. The boys’ singles will feature Rooparelia alongside Nishchal Chand, Jagshar Singh Khangura, and Akhil Reddy Bobba. The girls’ doubles will see Anya Bisht partner with Angel Punera, while Diya Bhimaya B. and Baruni Parshwal will also compete. In boys’ doubles, the pairs include Atish Srinivasan PV with Yogansh Singh and Pawan Suresh with Puneet Suresh. For mixed doubles, Divyansh Agarwal will team up with Varna Prabhuanand, and Yogansh Singh will partner with Anya Bisht.
