The Indian boxing team has made an impressive entry into the Commonwealth Games, with Lovlina Borgohain securing a spot in the women’s 75 kg semifinals, guaranteeing a medal for her.
Attention now turns to the next group of Indian contenders, which includes IIS-supported boxers Sachin Siwach, Preeti Pawar, and Kapil Pokharia. According to a press release, Sachin Siwach will be the first among these three boxers to step into the ring, commencing his campaign in the men’s 60 kg category on July 25.
Sachin Siwach: A Rising Star
At just 26 years old, Sachin Siwach is one of India’s most successful amateur boxers and arrives in Glasgow in excellent form. He made history by winning a gold medal at the 2025 World Boxing Cup Final, becoming the first Indian male boxer to achieve this feat. Maintaining his impressive momentum, he also clinched gold at the ‘Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem’ in the Czech Republic and the ‘Boxam Elite International Tournament’ in Spain, followed by a silver medal at the 2026 Asian Boxing Championship. Known for his technical precision and control in the ring, Siwach is expected to be one of India’s strongest medal contenders in Glasgow.
Preeti Pawar’s Ambitious Campaign
Preeti Pawar will kick off her campaign in the women’s 54 kg event from the ‘Round of 16’, having received a bye in the first round. The Paris Olympian is participating in the Commonwealth Games after one of the most successful seasons of her career, having won a gold medal at the 2026 Asian Boxing Championship, where she defeated a three-time world champion in the finals. Earlier this year, she also triumphed at the World Boxing Cup Final and the EUBC Gold Grand Prix.
Kapil Pokharia’s Quest for Glory
The 22-year-old from Bhiwani aims to continue his excellent form in Glasgow. Kapil Pokharia will also begin his journey in the Commonwealth Games in the men’s 90 kg category, starting from the ‘Round of 16’. This heavyweight boxer, supported by IIS, has established himself as one of India’s leading names in this category. Before being selected for the Commonwealth and Asian Games, he won a silver medal at the ‘Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem’ and a gold medal at the National Games.
