The Indian boxing contingent created history at the SEC Centre in Glasgow during the 2026 Commonwealth Games (CWG). After 10 Indians assured medals and also managed to reach the final, seven secured gold medals on Saturday (August 1) after winning their summit clashes.
Five Indian women boxers clinched gold, while two male athletes also ensured the Indian national anthem was played in the boxing ring. Sakshi Chaudhary (Women’s 51 kg), Preeti Pawar (Women’s 54 kg), Jaismine Lamboria (Women’s 57 kg), Priya Ghanghas (Women’s 60 kg), Arundhati Choudhary (Women’s 70 kg), Sachin Siwach (Men’s 60 kg), and Ankush Panghal (Men’s 80 kg) stood on top of the podium. Jadumani Singh (Men’s 55 kg), Lovlina Borgohain (Women’s 75 kg), and Narender Barwal (Men’s 90 KG+) settled for silver.
Indian Boxing Contingent Creates History
India’s tally of seven medals is the most by a country in a single edition of the CWG, despite boxing being part of the competition since the inaugural edition in 1930. They broke a record set by Canada 40 years ago, which was equalled by England later.

Meanwhile, India not only beat their best display in a single edition but also nearly tripled it. Before this edition, Glasgow’s best display was of three gold medals each in the 2010 (New Delhi), 2018 (Gold Coast) and 2022 (Birmingham) editions.
Meanwhile, India’s overall tally of 10 medals this time around is also the joint-most in a single edition in boxing alongside Canada and England, who also managed the same number during the 1986 edition.
India’s own previous best display in the sport in a single edition had come in 2018 at Gold Coast, when they managed to win nine medals, which included three gold, silver, and bronze medals each.
