New Delhi: The Indian Army has secured the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for its newly designed Coat Combat. The design has been officially registered with the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks in Kolkata and was published in the Patent Office’s official journal on 7 October 2025.
It is designed by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi, the New Coat Combat has been created as a part of a consultancy project undertaken under the aegis of the Army Design Bureau (ADB).

The newly registered three-layered garment has promised significant upgrades over existing combat apparel. According to reports, the coat uses state-of-the-art textile technology to offer superior durability, breathability, improved fit and compatibility with tactical gear aim to minimise fatigue and to boost the overall performance in various difficult climatic conditions.
The digital print camouflage pattern has been engineered to provide improved concealments across multiple terrains and will allow soldiers to blend more easily into the surroundings. The Army’s move to secure IPR ensures exclusive rights over the design. It will also prevent unauthorised reproduction.
