Indian archers settle for silver in Archery World Cup Stage 4

New Delhi: Indian archers had to settle for a silver medal at the Archery World Cup Stage 4 in the women’s compound team event after a moderate effort on Saturday. While the Indian trio looked on course for getting a gold but they fell short because of team’s inability to handle difficult situations and it was proved once again as they crumbled under pressure.

The trio of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Parneet Kaur and 16-year-old debutant Prithika Pradeep, who had topped the qualification round with a total of 2116 points, looked set for a gold medal and justify their top-billing when they led 170-169 after the third end. However, they faltered under pressure at the main moment, eventually going down 225-227 to Chinese Taipei.

While the margin of the loss was quite less, the impact of the defeat struck the Indian team very hard. Both the sides were locked at 57-all  after the first end but the Indians raised their game in the second end, dropping just a couple of points to take the end to 58-56 and open up a slender 115-113 lead.
