New Delhi: The Indian Women’s team is set to begin their preparation for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 as they host a preparatory camp in Visakhapatnam from August 25, ahead of the three-match ODI series against Australia.
All the squad members, including six stand-bys, will have to report one day before the camp begins. Currently, some players are playing an unofficial Test match against Australia A and will directly join the camp after concluding the Test match.
Radha Yadav is leading the India A side in the Test match in Brisbane, and she will arrive directly at the camp on August 24, a day before it starts. India A will also take on New Zealand at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru in their first warm-up match.
The reason behind organising a prepartory camp in Vizag is that India will play two important matches in the ACA-VDCA stadium in Vizag against two favourites to win the World Cup- Australia and South Africa. This is a strategic move to organise the camp in Vizag ahead of the global event.
This camp will generally focus on skills, and it will be similar to the Bengaluru 10-day camp, which took place earlier this month. Like in Bengaluru, the focus will be on fitness, fielding, and match simulation at the upcoming camp in Vizag.
The Indian team will play a couple of Intra-squad games in Vizag, especially under the floodlights, because all the World Cup matches will be played in day-night simulation.
India squad for World Cup: Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Smriti Mandhana (vc), Pratika Rawal, Harleen Deol, Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Renuka Singh Thakur, Arundhati Reddy, Richa Ghosh (wk), Kranti Gaud, Amanjot Kaur, Radha Yadav, Sree Charani, Yastika Bhatia (wk), Sneh Rana
Standby players: Tejal Hasabnis, Prema Rawat, Priya Mishra, Uma Chetry (wk), Minnu Mani, Sayali Satghare
DY Patil Stadium replaces M. Chinnaswamy in ICC World Cup
After the tragic incident that happened outside the M. Chinnaswamy stadium following Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)’s IPL 2025 title victory, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) was heavily criticised by the fans, and now the women’s World Cup matches have also been moved from Bengaluru to Navi Mumbai.
ICC announced the revised schedule for the global event on August 22, where two matches are scheduled to be hosted by DY Patil Stadium. M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has not hosted any top-tier cricket match after RCB’s victory celebration.
Karnataka’s T20 league has also been forced to shift matches from Bengaluru to Mysuru. The KSCA had offered to host the league behind closed doors, but the authorities declined the offer.
