India Women to follow Suryakumar Yadav & Co. and boycott handshake with Pakistan in World Cup? Deepti Sharma reveals

After the controversial snub of a handshake from the Indian players in the India vs Pakistan clash during the Asia Cup 2025, the Women’s cricketers have also revealed their plan of action against the Pakistani women in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025.

India started off their World Cup preparations on home ground in a disgusting fashion, as after a dominating series win in England, they lost the first game against Australia at the Mullanpur Cricket Stadium. They would be hoping for a miraculous comeback as well as a boost to their morale ahead of the ICC event.

Deepti Sharma drops insights on India vs Pakistan affair in the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup

The Indian men’s cricket team made their intentions look clear, as they refused to shake hands with the Pakistan players after their group match in the Asia Cup. This led to immense controversy, while the Indian women’s team have a similar match scheduled on the 5th of October in the ICC Women’s World Cup.

Deepti Sharma was questioned on what is in store for the game within the Indian Women’s camp, to which she said (as quoted by TOI):

“That match is a long time away. I haven’t thought about it. When that match comes, we will see what we have to do. I’m not thinking much about the Asia Cup. We are focusing on this series.”

India Women are in the hunt for their maiden ICC title

The Indian Women’s team have never won an ICC title, as their best results have been runners-up in any format of the game. However, they have to slay many demons, especially their biggest obstacle in the form of the Australian women, the most successful side in the history of the Women’s World Cup.

“It’s not like there’s a vast difference between them and us. Even the smaller teams are doing well. Winning and losing is a part of the game. When we take the field, we play with the aim to win,” said India’s ace all-rounder Deepti Sharma on Tuesday.

Deepti Sharma credits India’s performance in the First ODI, cites dew as a game-changing factor

The Mullanpur cricket stadium witnessed its first International match, and Deepti Sharma was questioned about whether India faced any problems in fielding under the lights. To which she replied quirkily, saying they have been a promising fielding unit.

“No, there was no such problem. We’ve fielded well in the last few series as a unit. There can be an odd day when a team makes mistakes. We don’t focus much on that.”

“Whatever has happened in the first match, we have taken a few positives from the things in which we’ve done well. We’ll carry that forward in the second ODI. The batting partnerships that we had and the little things that we did well in the first ODI, we will carry that forward,” Deepti pointed out the positives from India’s performance.

When Deepti was questioned on whether Dew, which arrived during the nighttime, restricted the Indian spinners from giving their best, she said:

“There was dew, but we can’t say that (dew was a big factor). Sometimes, as a bowler, it happens that you want to do well, put in your best effort, but it doesn’t work out that way. The idea is to learn from that and do well next time.

“I don’t focus much on whether I got a wicket at that time or not. My thought process is about taking a wicket. I hope that we can see that (her taking wickets) in the rest of the matches,” Deepti said.
