electronic sector
India’s electronics sector is rapidly moving towards new heights. The Central Government has approved 22 new projects under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS). These projects will bring investment of about Rs 41,863 crore in the country and create 33,791 new jobs. This decision is being considered a big step towards strengthening India in the global electronics supply chain.
The objective of these new projects is to increase the manufacturing of electronic components in India and reduce dependence on imports. The government’s focus is no longer limited to assembly only, but on high-value manufacturing and advanced technology. This will directly benefit sectors like mobile, consumer electronics, automotive and IT hardware in the country.
Projects will be spread in eight states
The approved projects will be set up in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Its advantage will be that industrial development will not be limited to only a few states, but new employment and investment opportunities will be created in the entire country. This step of the government also reflects balanced industrial development.
Vendors associated with Apple supply chain will make big investments
Along with increasing Apple’s manufacturing in India, its supply chain vendors are also investing heavily. Among these, there are many companies which will export their electronic components from India in future. This will strengthen India’s identity not only as a manufacturing hub but also as a global export centre.
Which sectors will cost the most money
In this phase, the maximum investment will be in units making mobile and device enclosures i.e. external structures. Thousands of crores of rupees will be invested in this segment alone. Apart from this, emphasis will also be on important components like printed circuit board (PCB), lithium-ion battery cell, camera module and display module. All these things are very important in smartphones, laptops and electronic vehicles.
Government’s focus
IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has clearly said that the government is not limited to just making schemes, but is also paying full attention to their fast and effective implementation. He advised companies to adopt design innovation and international quality standards so that Indian products can become competitive in the global market.
Strong presence of big companies
Big companies like Foxconn, Samsung, Tata Electronics, Dixon Technologies and Hindalco are included in these projects. A Foxconn project in Tamil Nadu alone is expected to create more than 16 thousand jobs. It is clear from this that this investment is not limited to just figures, but is going to change the lives of people at the ground level.
