New Delhi: India will face Sri Lanka in the gold-medal match of the Asian Games 2026 women’s cricket competition on Tuesday, September 22. The final will be played at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Aichi.
The contest will bring the two sides together in a major final for the second time in a little over a week. India and Sri Lanka had earlier met in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup final, while they also contested the gold-medal match at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
India enter the final on the back of a 114-run win over Bangladesh in the semi-final. Batting first, India scored 195 for four before dismissing Bangladesh for 81.
Shafali Verma led the way with an unbeaten 100 off 49 balls, hitting nine sixes. Her century made her the first woman to score a hundred in Asian Games cricket.
Smriti Mandhana also achieved a significant milestone during the semi-final, overtaking Suzie Bates to become the highest run-scorer in women’s T20 internationals. Mandhana scored 37 off 19 balls, while Harmanpreet Kaur added 40.
India’s bowling attack then wrapped up the match. Deepti Sharma returned figures of 3/7, Shree Charani took 2/7 and Nandani Sharma claimed 3/25.
Sri Lanka booked their place in the final with an eight-wicket victory over Pakistan. Chasing 178, they reached 178 for two with 13 balls to spare.
Captain Chamari Athapaththu played a key role in the chase, remaining unbeaten on 83 off 50 balls. Hasini Perera contributed 42, while Athapaththu has accumulated 146 runs in two matches at the tournament.
