New Delhi: Skipper Shubman Gill set a new record for most runs scored in a Test series as a captain during the fifth Test match against England on Thursday. Gill, thus, surpassed legendary Indian player Sunil Gavaskar to sit atop the elite list.
Gavaskar held the record for scoring 732 runs in a Test series as Indian captain back in 1978-79 against the West Indies. Gill scored the 733rd run, overtaking the stalwart after scoring his 11th run in the first innings in the series decider at The Oval. Apart from Gill and Gavaskar, Virat Kohli is the only other Indian captain with maximum runs in a Test series, placed on the third, fourth and fifth spot with 655, 610 and 593 runs respectively.
In the overall list, legendary Sir Donald Bradman leads the list with 810 runs, a record etched way back in 1936 while Graham Gooch is second with 752 runs.
