New Delhi: The Government of India have tested the nationwide Cell Broadcast emergency alert system as citizens received “Extremely Severe Alert” message on phones. No action is required for this purpose as it is just a test. The purpose of this is to alert citizens instantly to any type of disaster and warn them.
The test covered Delhi NCR and the capital cities of all States and Union Territories, excluding border areas and poll-bound states. During the exercise, the citizens got the alert notifications along with a loud sound or vibration. Officials had previously clarified that this exercise would happen and was only to test the effectiveness of the system.
The purpose is to ensure the timely dissemination of critical information during the actual disaster and improve the preparedness of communication systems. Authorities had even urged people not to panic upon receiving any alert.
This is a developing story..
