India Squad for T20 World Cup 2026: Team India has been announced for next year’s T20 World Cup. On December 20, a meeting of the selectors of the Indian cricket team was held under the leadership of Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar at the BCCI Headquarters in Mumbai, in which the names of 15 players were approved who will be seen playing in the T20 World Cup 2026 under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav. The biggest news related to the team was about Shubman Gill, who has not been given a place. Ishan Kishan has returned in place of Gill. What changed in the T20 WC team including the vice-captain?
After Shubman Gill’s exit, Axar Patel has been made the vice-captain for the T20 World Cup 2026. Along with Ishan Kishan, Rinku Singh has also returned to the team. Rinku Singh was a part of Team India in the T20 Asia Cup but he was dropped from the T20 series against South Africa. Wicketkeeper batsman Jitesh Sharma has also been dropped from the T20 World Cup 2026 team. Jitesh Sharma was part of the team in the T20 series against South Africa.
Jasprit Bumrah will be seen commanding the pace attack of Team India for the T20 World Cup 2026. The responsibility of spin will be on the shoulders of Varun Chakraborty-Kuldeep Yadav. Apart from all this, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dubey have been selected as all-rounders in Team India.

In the T20 series against South Africa, the performance of most of the players selected for the T20 World Cup 2026 was explosive. The result of that is that the selectors have decided to keep him in the World Cup team also. Tilak Verma was the team’s top scorer by scoring 187 runs in 4 matches of the T20 series against South Africa. He was followed by Hardik Pandya, who scored 142 runs in 3 innings with a strike rate of more than 186 and 2 half-centuries. Varun Chakraborty had an amazing performance in bowling against South Africa. He took the maximum of 10 wickets in 4 matches and was the player of the series.
Why did Ishan Kishan return to Team India?
The reason for Ishan Kishan’s return to the T20 World Cup team is his performance in Syed Mushtaq Ali. He was the batsman who scored the most runs, most sixes and most centuries in that domestic T20 tournament. Ishan Kishan, under his own captaincy, won the SMAT title for the first time on the strength of his batting. He had scored more than 500 runs in 10 matches played in the entire tournament. Talking about Shubman Gill, he could score only 32 runs in 3 innings of the T20 series played against South Africa.
