‘India should get their pound of flesh’: Ravi Shastri tells BCCI to demand more than 38.5 per cent of ICC revenue

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) receives the largest share of the International Cricket Council (ICC) among all the cricket boards in the world. The matter has been largely debated in the recent years but since the Indian cricket board is the biggest contributor in terms of revenue generation as well, all the debates are laid to rest before hitting off.

As per the new regulation model, BCCI receives a total of 38.5 per cent of ICC’s total revenue with the Indian team being the most followed side in the world. Meanwhile, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has defended this saying that India should get an even larger share of the revenue.

Speaking to Wisden, the former Indian skipper said that he wishes more for India most of the money that is generated comes from India.

India should get their pound of flesh

‘I absolutely agree that India should get 38.5 per cent. I would want more for India,’ Shastri said, speaking to Wisden. ‘Most of the money that is generated comes from India. So it’s only fair that they get their pound of flesh,’ Shastri stated.

The ex-India player further went on to say that it’s quite relative as tomorrow there might be another nation with more revenue as it used to be earlier.

‘And it’s relative. It’s economies. Tomorrow there might be another economy that’s stronger, money might come from there like it did in the 1970s and 80s, and the chunk of the money goes somewhere else,’ Shastri added.

Meanwhile, the Indian cricket board is the richest board in the world generating the maximum profit for world cricket. The popularity of the sport in the country and the large population directly impacts the viewership which becomes three fold.
