Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the Indian contingent for their remarkable performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026 held in Glasgow.
India concluded the event with a total of 39 medals, comprising 13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze, securing the fourth position in the medal tally.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi expressed immense pride in the extraordinary skills, unwavering determination, and deep commitment of the athletes. He congratulated all medal winners and expressed confidence that their hard work would continue to inspire youth across the nation.

The Prime Minister also extended heartfelt wishes to the Indian team for their upcoming competitions, hoping they would continue to excel and bring pride to India.
India Set to Host 2030 Commonwealth Games
Meanwhile, the 2026 Commonwealth Games officially concluded with Scotland handing over the Commonwealth Games flag and symbolic baton to India. Ahmedabad is set to host the historic centenary edition of the Commonwealth Games in 2030, making India the second country after Australia to host this multi-sport event more than once, having previously hosted the games in New Delhi in 2010.

The handover ceremony featured Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President P.T. Usha, and Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi representing India.
India’s Performance at CWG 2026
Although the medal count was lower compared to the 61 medals won in Birmingham in 2022, India’s performance in Glasgow was commendable. With a smaller team of 122 athletes compared to 210 four years ago, India maintained its fourth position and improved its medal conversion rate, with 38 athletes returning with medals. Long-distance runner Gulveer Singh stood out as the only Indian athlete to win two medals at these games.
