New Delhi: India set a daunting target of 608 runs for England in the Edgbaston Test match on Saturday after declaring their second innings on 427/6. Shubman Gill led from the front with a masterclass hundred while Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul played pivotal roles in the innings to put the team in command.
For a hosts, it is a humungous task to chase such a mammoth score in almost an hour’s play left in the game on the fourth day and an entire three sessions on the fifth and final day on Sunday. India would be aiming to showcase their best show with the ball to win their first-ever Test match at the venue. Meanwhile, Gill scripted history as he became the first batter to score a double century (1st innings) and 150-plus score in the same match.
The Indian skipper ended up scoring 161 runs off 162 balls which included 13 boundaries and 8 massive sixes while Jadeja was the next best scorer in the side with an unbeaten innings of 69 runs. Earlier in the second session, Pant played a flamboyant role with an impressive knock of 65 runs while seasoned Rahul also scored a half-century as his useful 55-run knock set the base for the visiting side.
