Nearly 70 per cent of imports are coming through other routes and two cargoes are on the way to strengthen the situation. Crude supply is safe in India

Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary (Marketing and Oil Refining) in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said that in terms of crude supply, India’s crude supply remains secure. Daily consumption is 55 lakh barrels. During this period, we have obtained more crude oil than the normal oil coming from the Strait of Hormuz. To minimize any disruption, the government is purchasing crude oil and LNG through other routes. There will be no shortage of oil and gas in the country in the coming days.

used other routes

Sharma further said that to overcome the blockage, procurement from other routes and supplies is going on. Gas companies have purchased LNG cargoes from other routes. To manage the supply properly, a Natural Gas Control Order has also been issued. Shell said refineries were operating at full capacity, and said it would reduce its refineries and petrochemicals units by 35 percent to protect more priority sectors.

In the case of LPG, India imports about 60 per cent of its requirement, of which 90 per cent comes through the Strait of Hormuz. To ensure uninterrupted domestic supply, the government issued an order on March 8 directing companies to increase production. The purpose of these measures is to protect essential sectors and domestic consumers from supply shocks coming from the Gulf.

no need to panic

Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, told reporters in a briefing that there is no need for panic booking of cooking gas cylinders and assured that the normal delivery cycle for domestic households will be only two and a half days. He said that feedback shows that due to wrong information some people are doing panic booking and hoarding.

I want to make it clear that our normal delivery cycle for domestic LPG is about two and a half days, hence I request… there is no need for customers to book cylinders early… there is no need for panic booking.” According to the ministry, state governments have been asked to take preventive steps to stop fuel hoarding and black marketing.
