According to the CREA report, the value of total Russian fuel imports to India reached $3.1 billion, while for China the figure stood at $5.8 billion. It is clear from this that Asia still remains its largest and most reliable energy market for Russia.

After India and China, Türkiye and the European Union are also big buyers of Russian energy. Turkey purchased $2.7 billion in October, while the EU imported $1.1 billion worth of Russian energy products. In October the EU bought $824 million of LNG and pipeline gas and $311 million of crude oil. South Korea also continued to rely on Russian energy, with more than half of its imports being coal.

In the natural gas sector too, India continued to rely on Russian pipeline gas and purchased gas worth $929 million, while additional crude worth $572 million was also imported.
Why does America have objection to India’s purchases?
America alleges that this purchase by India and China provides financial help to Russia for the Ukraine war. Due to this, America imposed new sanctions on two Russian companies Rosneft and Lukoil last month. However, India has clearly said that it will take the decision based on its energy needs.
