Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar, who represented CSK in IPL 2025, has decided to opt out of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association and follow in the footsteps of Hanuma Vihari to join the Tripura side for the upcoming domestic season, ahead of the Asia Cup 2025.
Vijay Shankar, the right-handed batting all-rounder, started off his domestic career with the Tamil Nadu State Cricket team back in 2012 and has played in 58 Ranji Trophy games for them until last season. He amassed 3142 runs coming down the order at an average of 44.25 and has 11 centuries to his name.
His List A career looks equally flamboyant with the Tamil Nadu side, as he has featured in 106 matches, scoring 2632 runs at an average of nearly 35. With two hundreds in the format, he has also played in T20s and amassed 2454 runs and 36 wickets to his name.
Vijay Shankar confirms move to Tripura in the new India domestic season
Just after the move of Hanuma Vihari was confirmed yesterday, Vijay Shankar has sent shockwaves with his move from the TNCA to the Tripura Cricket Association for the upcoming domestic season that will begin with the Duleep Trophy ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.
“I have obtained the NOC from TNCA, but am yet to receive confirmation from the Tripura Cricket Association. I will be able to officially announce my switch once I get the formal approval letter from Tripura,” said Shankar.
Vijay Shankar, the all-rounder batter, has featured in 9 T20Is and 12 ODIs for India, which also included the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup. He has 223 ODI runs and 101 T20I runs and has picked 4 and 5 wickets in the formats, respectively.
TCA Official confirms Professionals joining the Tripura side
A Tripura Cricket Association official told Cricbuzz on late Tuesday evening that Vijay Shankar will join Hanuma Vihari as a professional cricketer for the upcoming season. As per reports, Tripura will be seen competing in the Elite divisions across all three formats of the game: the Ranji Trophy, the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
The domestic cricket season in India is about to begin with the Duleep Trophy, which has been scheduled before the onset of the Asia Cup 2025. The Asia Cup 2025 has been scheduled to begin on the 9th of September. Hanuma Vihari is likely to lead Tripura in the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, Hanuma Vihari has released an official statement on his move to the Tripura side ahead of the next domestic season. In a social media post on Tuesday evening, he said, “After thoughtful consideration, I have made the decision to move to the Tripura Cricket Association, where I will be representing the state in all three formats of the game.
“While I’m grateful to the Andhra Cricket Association for the role they have played in my journey so far, I believe that it’s time for a platform that aligns better with my aspirations and allows me to contribute consistently across formats. (I’m) excited for this fresh challenge and fully committed to giving my best in this next phase.”
