India-Panama relations strengthened, both formed 20-member Inter-Parliament Group

India and Panama have formed a 20-member Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group to further strengthen their bilateral relations. The Indian Embassy in Panama gave this information on Wednesday. Indian Ambassador Dr. Sumit Seth, Valkyria Chandler, Chairperson of Panama’s Foreign Relations Committee, and Jorge Blois, Chairperson of the India-Panama Parliamentary Friendship Group, participated in the swearing-in ceremony of the group. This program took place in the National Assembly (Parliament Building) of Panama.

The President of Panama said this

Earlier, during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meeting in September 2025, Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino had said that relations between India and Panama are in a very good phase and India is a strategic partner for them. He had said, India is a very important country for us. At present relations between the two countries are very good. We are working towards increasing cooperation with India in areas like technology, medicine, production and investment.

Trade will increase rapidly between the two countries

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had also earlier said that relations between India and Panama are among the oldest in Central America, dating back to the mid-19th century, when Indian workers went there to build the Panama Railways and later the Panama Canal. Today, India and Panama enjoy friendly, warm and trustful relations, based on mutual understanding, growing trade and extensive cooperation.
