Born in Madurai, India, Sundar Pichai is now a US citizen. He has citizenship of America, but now the question is whether he now has citizenship of India despite being born in India. The Citizenship Act-1955 says, there is no rule of dual citizenship in India. Single citizenship is possible in India. This simply means that the citizen of India cannot keep citizenship of other countries with citizenship here.
If an Indian has acquired foreign citizenship, then he will have to give up citizenship of India. Even if he does not do this, then Indian citizenship is accepted automatically. However, the Government of India has also made an arrangement for this. India issues OCI cards for such citizens.

What is OCI card?
OCI means Overseas Citizen of India. People who are of Indian origin, but can gain citizenship of another country, then they can get special rights through OCI card. The Government of India gives many facilities to the OCI card holders. People of such Indian origin can travel visa-free to India. They are allowed to buy immovable property in India. They can live in India and also work.
However, they do not get all the rights that common Indians get. For example, Indians have the right to vote, they do not get OCI card holders. OCI card holders cannot be given government jobs. They cannot be given any kind of constitutional post.
What did Sundar Pichai say on India?
In one of its interviews, Google CEO Sundar Pichai had said, I am an American citizen but India is deeply inside me. At the time spent in India, he said, there was a time when basic facilities were rare. After a five -year waiting list, we got a rotary telephone. This changed our lives. People used to come to our house to call their loved ones.
Basic needs were also everyday challenge. We had no water system. Trucks were brought with water. Eight buckets of water were given in every house. Sometimes my mother and we used to stand in line and fill water. In childhood, the idea came to my mind that only the power of technology can change the lives of people.
