India offers condolences on Khamenei’s killing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visits Iran embassy

New Delhi: Days after Ayatollah Khamenei was killed at join operation by the US and Israel, India on Thursday condoled the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri signed the condolence book at the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi today.

The conflicts in the Middle East only increased ever since Khamenei’s killing and Iran’s counter operations against the US, Israel, and other countries in the Middle East. The 86-year-old leader had been ruling Iran since 1989, before his assassination last week.

Khamenei’s death was announced by US President Donald Trump, who applauded the killing. Iran, on the other hand, pledged to avenge the killing and started hitting various targets in counterattacks.

“Khamenei, one of the most evil people in history, is dead. This is not only justice for the people of Iran, but for all Great Americans, and those people from many countries throughout the World, who have been killed or mutilated by Khamenei,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Increase in tensions in Middle East

As tensions increased, the US claimed to hit an Iranian warship in the international border near Sri Lanka yesterday, and Iran too claimed to have hit a US Warship today. The development angered various leaders of the Opposition, with Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi questioning PM Modi’s silence over the matter.

“The world has entered a volatile phase. Stormy seas lie ahead. India’s oil supplies are under threat, with more than 40% of our imports transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The situation is even worse for LPG and LNG,” he wrote.

The conflict has reached our backyard: Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi added, “The conflict has reached our backyard, with an Iranian warship sunk in the Indian Ocean. Yet the Prime Minister has said nothing. At a moment like this, we need a steady hand at the wheel. Instead, India has a compromised PM who has surrendered our strategic autonomy”.
