Dubai, August 31: India has made history in the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup 2026 match at the Dubai International Stadium.
Batting first, India became the first nation to score 60 runs in the first six overs of a Women’s T20 Asia Cup match.
On Sunday, India scored 65 runs for the loss of one wicket in the initial six overs, breaking their previous record. In 2022, during a match against Bangladesh, India had scored 59 runs without losing a wicket in the powerplay.
Sri Lanka ranks third on this list, having scored 58 runs for the loss of one wicket against the UAE in 2026. India also holds the fourth and fifth positions. In 2024, they scored 57 runs without losing a wicket against Pakistan and 56 runs with three wickets down against the UAE in the same year.
In the match held in Dubai, Indian opener Smriti Mandhana surpassed Suzie Bates to secure the second position for the most runs in women’s international cricket. Mandhana has accumulated 10,756 runs, while Mithali Raj leads with 10,868 runs. Suzie Bates has scored 10,740 runs in her international career.
In the third match of the Women’s Asia Cup 2026, Thailand won the toss and opted to bowl first. Indian player Pratika Rawal made her T20 international debut, while Thailand’s regular captain Naruemol Chaiwai was sidelined due to injury. Thipcha Puthavong took over the captaincy in her absence.
