India is now not just a defence market but an emerging defence superpower. This country, which has been dependent on foreign countries for military equipment and materials for decades, has now joined the list of few countries that can make state-of-the-art equipment for their defence systems on their own.
A turning point towards self-reliance
‘Operation Sindoor’ not only demonstrated India’s military might but also made it clear that technological self-reliance is the need of the hour. The success of indigenous weapons in this operation has shown that India is now not only a consumer of defence technology but also a producer. This experience has forced India to think whether India will be able to deal with it if a country stops the supply of critical components during a war or tension. This thinking has led India towards domestic production of advanced materials like superalloys, titanium, beryllium and tantalum.
India’s name included in the 6 leading countries of the world
Today India stands with defense superpowers like America, Russia, France, China and Britain – in the line of countries that can manufacture high-tech materials used in military equipment like missiles, fighter planes and submarines on their own. This is a technological revolution, which gives India strategic independence.
Missile factory, Swadeshi symbol
A living example of India’s self-reliance is the BrahMos missile factory established in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. This project has been set up by private company PTC Industries Limited, which will also produce complex metals like titanium. This will not only give India an opportunity to manufacture defense equipment for itself, but will also open avenues for export in the future.
This time the politics of foreign pressure will not work.
PTC Industries CMD Sachin Agarwal is absolutely right – now India will not have to face “diplomatic blackmail” from any country. If any country wants to stop the supply of essential components in times of war or crisis, then India will now be able to deal with that situation by becoming self-reliant.
