It is expected that GE will give India two engines every month.
Donald Trump has imposed 50% tariff on India
India is going to deal with the American company for fighter aircraft engine at a time when US President Donald Trump has imposed 50% tariff on imports from India. The Government of India has signed a deal of Rs 97 from HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited) and Rs 62,000 crore to buy LCA Mark 1A fighter aircraft.
HAL needs engine for Tejas fighter jets
HAL is a government company that makes Tejas fighter aircraft, but it does not have the ability to make fighter aircraft engines yet. Due to this, the engine has to be purchased from the American company. HAL has dealt with 99 GE-404 engines with General Motors for the initial 83 LCA Mark 1A fighter aircraft ordered by the Indian Air Force. The new deal is for 113 and aircraft.
India needs 200 GE-414 engine
The deal is expected to help HAL to continue its purchasing list of 212 GE-404 engines and avoid delay in supply. India needs 200 GE-414 engines for its LCA Mark 2 and Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft.

Talk on technology transfer for Ge-414 engines
HAL is expected to supply 83 aircraft first by the end of 2029–30 and then 97 LCA Mark 1A aircraft by 2033-34. HAL is also interacting with GE with 80 percent technology transfer for her GE-414 engines. Tejas aircraft are to replace Mig 21 in the Air Force. Mig 21 are retiring. In such a situation, it is necessary that the Air Force should get the fighter aircraft from HAL. HAL will be able to give fighter aircraft to the Air Force on time with the engine from the American company.
