India head coach Gautam Gambhir set to host team members for dinner ahead of Delhi Test

New Delhi: Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir is set to host the team members for a special dinner at his house in Delhi ahead of the second Test against the West Indies, starting at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on October 10. According to a report in India Today, Gambhir has invited the whole squad as well as the members of the support staff for dinner on October 8.

The thought behind Gambhir’s special gesture seems to be for the cricketers to have an evening of unwinding and bonding before they head back to the ground for preparations ahead of the upcoming busy schedule.

The Indian cricket team is on an ongoing stretch of busy cricket, which began from the recently concluded Asia Cup. The Test team is currently involved in a two-Test series against the West Indies, who suffered a humbling innings defeat in the first Test in Ahmedabad. After the Delhi Test, the Men in Blue will embark on a white-ball series, including three ODIs and five T20Is, in Australia, starting on September 19. The series will mark the start of a new era with Shubman Gill replacing Rohit Sharma as the team’s ODI skipper. While Rohit has been removed as the captain of the ODI side, he, along with Virat Kohli, is included in the squad.

Chance for Indian players to unwind

In the middle of a packed calendar, Gambhir’s invitation gives the Indian cricketers and the support staff a great opportunity to relax and rejuvenate ahead of the Delhi Test.

As per sources as quoted by India Today, the Indian team will undergo training in an afternoon session at the stadium on October 8 and will head to Gambhir’s residence for dinner following the practice.

The Shubman Gill-led side will look to carry the momentum of the massive win in Ahmedabad to the second Test in Delhi. The Asian giants dominated the Caribbean side right from the word go and outplayed their opponents in all three departments.

While KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja shone with the bat courtesy of superb centuries, Mohammed Siraj and Jadeja starred with the ball. Jadeja was named Player of the Match for his all-round performance.
