New Delhi: Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi praised India’s growing diplomatic stature, saying that the country enjoys a “good reputation” and can play a “constructive role” in promoting peace and stability in West Asia. Speaking to the media during his ongoing visit to New Delhi, Araghchi spoke about the deep strategic importance of Iran-India relations and expressed Tehran’s strong desire to expand bilateral cooperation, especially in the energy sector.
‘Relations with India important’
“We attach great importance to our relations with India,” Araghchi said. He also appreciated the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation by the Indian government and praised his “very good personal and working relationship” with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
“We have been in touch in the past two months, when the war was going on, or as I prefer to say, the act of aggression against my country was going on,” he added.
Araghchi thanked the government and people of India for their solidarity and sympathy following recent events. He expressed gratitude for the humanitarian assistance provided by India, calling it a significant sign of friendship.
