India gets hosting of 2030 Commonwealth Games
The Commonwealth Games of 2030 is going to be historic. This is special not only because this game is going to complete its 100 years, but also because India is going to get a chance to host these games for the second time. When Ahmedabad hosts the 2030 edition, two decades after the 2010 event in Delhi, the city will emerge not only as a hub of sports but also as a major model of economic, urban and infrastructure development. For India, this event is also being considered as a platform to strengthen its claim for the future Olympics 2036.
The way Ahmedabad has transformed its sports infrastructure in recent years has made it a natural contender. After the completion of the evaluation process of the Commonwealth Games Federation, the city got the hosting recommendation and this announcement became the basis of big projects not only for Gujarat but for the entire country.
70 thousand crores were spent in the year 2010
When India organized the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in 2010, huge expenditure was incurred on the event. The initial estimate was Rs 16 thousand crores, however by the time the game ended, Rs 70,000 crores had been spent. These games, with the participation of 72 countries, may be expensive, but the urban development that comes with them has a much bigger impact. This is why India is looking at hosting 2030 not just as a sporting event, but as a long-term national investment.
After the event, sports village, stadium, airport, metro, roads and many other structures became the identity of Delhi. Ahmedabad is also expecting such a lasting legacy from this event, which can give a new direction to the future of the city. This time both India and Nigeria had expressed their desire to host, but India’s proposal clearly reflected the detail, planning and resources which the Games Federation gave priority to.

Huge cut in the budget of Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games
The budget for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games has been drastically cut. The city wants to hold the entire event within a radius of eight miles (about 12 km). He has kept the budget of these games at 114 million pounds (about Rs 1300 crore). Not only this, many important sports, wrestling, shooting, badminton and hockey were excluded from the Glasgow Games. India opposed this a lot because India has traditionally been strong in these competitions. The Indian Olympic Association had made it clear that all these sports would be included in the 2030 edition. This decision has boosted enthusiasm among players, coaches and sports associations and has given the message that India wants to play a bigger role in the global systems of sports in the future.
Doors of development will open from Ahmedabad to Gandhinagar
The official announcement of the 2030 event has thrown a new light on the development of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The city was already transforming with projects like the metro, new expressways, riverfronts, industrial corridors and world-class stadiums. Now its speed is likely to increase manifold in the coming years. Infrastructure projects like Sports City, Sports Village, Athlete Facility Centre, Food and Transport Hub, Press and Media Centre, Sponsor Village will reshape the map of the city. This development will not be limited to just organizing events, but will bring lasting benefits to sports tourism and international hosting capacity.
New flight of real estate sector
The fastest rise from any such big event is seen in the real estate sector. The rapidly expanding boundaries of Ahmedabad towards North, South and Gandhinagar will expand further due to the games. The prices of land around sports villages, stadiums, new roads, hotels, business complexes and tourist places can increase rapidly. Its direct benefit will be available to those developers who already have large land plots available. Companies like Arvind Smartspaces, Godrej Properties and Adani Realty are already active in this sector and games can further propel their projects. Demand for mid- and high-end residential projects, serviced apartments, shopping hubs and office space is expected to witness tremendous growth in the coming years.
Expansion of airport and travel infrastructure
Narendra Modi International Airport is already being upgraded rapidly. International traffic, charter flights, team movement and business delegations will increase significantly due to the Commonwealth Games. With this, there is a possibility of airport terminal expansion, new runway plan and improvement in air cargo system. Hotels, business parks and retail hubs will develop rapidly around the airport, turning the entire area into a modern travel corridor.
Increase in demand for construction and engineering companies
Construction work is the biggest part of any big sporting event. There will be huge investment in stadiums, multi-sport arenas, new roads, metro expansion, bridges, airport upgradation and hotel construction in Ahmedabad. In such an environment, companies like L&T, HCC, GMR, Tata Projects can become major contractors. The experience of the companies which had performed strongly in events like Delhi 2010 and Asian Games can also play a decisive role in Ahmedabad projects.
New boom in hospitality sector
When millions of tourists, players, coaches and officials come to a city, there is a natural boom in the hotel industry. This number is expected to increase manifold in 2030 as sports tourism in India is growing rapidly. Brands like Taj (IHCL), ITC, Lemon Tree, Chalet Hotels can take advantage of the tourism and business environment created not only during the Games but also after it. Several international conferences, trade events and cultural programs before and after the Games will also take Ahmedabad to a new level.
