New Delhi: India defeated the West Indies by five wickets and advanced to the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2026 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on March 1. India became the fourth and final team to qualify for the knockout stage of the tournament.
South Africa, England and New Zealand have already reached in the last four of the T20 World Cup 2026. South Africa and England remained undefeated in the Super 8 stage to qualify, while New Zealand advanced to the semis on the basis of the superior net run-rate.
The Proteas men defeated India, West Indies and Zimbabwe to finish at the top of Group 1 in Super 8, while England beat Pakistan, Sri Lanka and New Zealand to advance to the semifinals.
The last Super 8 clash between India and the West Indies was a virtual quarterfinal, and the defending champions chased down a 196-run target with three balls remaining. Sanju Samson played a brilliant knock and scored an unbeaten 97 off 50 balls, smashing 12 boundaries and four maximums to help India advance.
He forged crucial partnerships with Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube to help the defending champions register their highest successful run chase in the history of the tournament.

T20 World Cup 2026 semifinals line-up
South Africa will take on New Zealand in the first semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on March 4, while India will face England in the second semifinal of the tournament at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 5. The final of the T20 World Cup 2026 will be played on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
