INDIA bloc to move removal notice against CEC Gyanesh Kumar as Lok Sabha debates Om Birla motion today

New Delhi: On a day when the Lok Sabha is set to debate Opposition’s removal notice against Speaker OM Birla, reports have emerged that INDIA bloc may move a similar notice against chief election commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

The notice against Birla is likely to be disposed of by Wednesday as the NDA holds a majority in both Houses of Parliament. A debate on removal of Speaker Birla begins Tuesday. Reports have mentioned that 10 hours have been allocated for the debate.

Notice against CEC likely in Rajya Sabha

Meanwhile, the notice against the CEC may be moved in Rajya Sabha. According to a Times Of India report, TMC raised the demand to remove CEC during a meeting of opposition INDIA bloc on Monday.

A notice in this regard will be filed soon after TMC MP Shatabdi Roy told the opposition parties over the problems with the Special Intensive Review of electoral rolls in election-bound West Bengal.

TMC’s repeated demand to remove CEC Gyanesh

It is important to note that TMC has been demanding the removal notice against CEC Kumar for past few months but its allies were not on the same page. TMC, too, was not a signatory to the “removal notice” of the opposition against Birla but it later supported the move.

If the notice is moved then the Parliament will witness another bout of allegations and counter allegations between the ruling NDA and opposition INDIA bloc. Day 1 of the second phase of Parliament’s Budget session was repeated adjourned on Monday after protests by opposition over its demand on a full-fledged discussion on situation in West Asia.
