Ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections this year, the Opposition’s INDIA bloc will launch a statewide yatra (march) to highlight the failure of Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar.
As part of the campaign, the alliance will organise joint rallies across the state to be attended by Central and state leaders of all the alliance partners.
The decision for the yatra was taken during the INDIA bloc’s coordination committee meeting on Bihar elections held in Patna on Wednesday.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav said the yatra would be held in August 2025. Through this initiative, alliance leaders will reach out to voters at the booth level and highlight the failures of the current NDA government.
Sharing further details of the proposed yatra, the RJD leader said: “The yatra will be launched after Raksha Bandhan. Senior leaders of the alliance, including former Congress President Rahul Gandhi and other national-level figures, will participate and engage directly with the public. The yatra will be held across the state. Specific dates and routes for the march will be announced in the coming days.”
Tejashwi Yadav, who chaired the alliance’s coordination committee meeting, alleged that Nitish Kumar-led BJP-JD(U) government has looted nearly one-third of Bihar’s total budget, amounting to Rs70,000 crore, which could have been used for various developmental projects in Bihar.
He also claimed that voters’ names are being removed in the name of the Election Commission’s revision of the voter list. The law and order situation in the state is also deteriorating. “We are planning to raise all these issues among the public,” he added.
