India became Apple’s manufacturing hub, 45 companies and 3.5 lakh jobs; One in 5 iPhone is made here

IPhone made in India

Apple, which was once known for production in America and China, is now increasing its scope rapidly in India. There was a time when India was seen as just a market, but now it is becoming a big manufacturing hub for Apple. According to the latest information, Apple has added more than 45 companies to its supply chain in India. These include Indian companies as well as partners of American and some Chinese companies.

Apple interested in Indian companies

According to an ET report, Apple is no longer dependent on only large contract manufactures such as Foxconn, Wistron and Pegatron, but is also giving a place in its ecosystem to domestic companies of India. Renowned companies like Tata Electronics, Wipro innings, Mother’s, Calcop, Hindalco and Bharat Forge have now become part of the chain of iPhone construction. Apart from this, more than 20 MSMEs i.e. micro, small and medium industries have also been added which is a big change.

Creation of 3.5 lakh jobs

In one of its reports, ET quoted the officer associated with the case as saying that the joining of these companies has so far created about 3.5 lakh new jobs in India, out of which 1.2 lakh people are working directly in iPhone construction. These figures show that Apple’s increasing investment in India is not only bringing technology, but is also opening new opportunities for employment.

1 out of 5 iPhone made in India

Today, about 20% of Apple’s total iPhone production i.e. 1 iphone out of every 5 is made in India. This figure is only after PLI (Production Linked Incentive) Scheme. These iPhones are formed in the factories of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, while the supply chain is spread in states like Maharashtra, UP, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Haryana.

76% production was exported

Apple made iphones of $ 45 billion (about ₹ 3.75 lakh crore) in India between 2021-22 and 2024-25, out of which 76% iPhones were exported abroad. India’s smartphone export has now become so big that it has become the number 1 export item in the country, which was ranked 167 in 2015.

Distance from China, attitude towards India

Apple had earlier started by bringing Chinese companies to India, but in 2020 it changed the strategy after the Galwan clashes. Now he is working closely with most non-Chinese companies. This step became even more important due to the Press Note 3 of the Government of India, which has strict conditions on investment from countries like China.
