The Indian cricket team created history on Monday (June 23) with centuries from KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant helping them set England a massive target of 371 in the fourth innings of the first test at the Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds.
With Rahul’s third ton in history in England and Pant’s second of the match, India ensured they had made five centuries in the match. In the first innings, when the visitors posted a massive total of 477, there were three centurions with skipper Shubman Gill as well as Yashasvi Jaiswal reaching the three-figure mark alongside Pant.

The Leeds Test match marks the first instance of five individual centuries for India in a Test match in history. The Asian giants started playing th longest format of the game 93 years ago (1932), but it took until their 590th match in the format for the rare feat to happen. Previously, there were four instances of four centuries for India in a Test match but all of them had come in Asia.

Overall, Inida are only the fifth team (sixth instance) in history to achieve the feat in a Test match and the second to do it away from home. The only other instance of a visiting team to hit five centuries in a single Test match came 70 years ago when five Australian players got to the three-figure mark against West Indies in 1955 at Jamaica. Pakistan are the only team to have two instances of five centurions in a match.
