New Delhi: India women would be hoping to pile more misery on England when both the teams lock horns in the second T20I of the five-match series on Tuesday. In the series opener on Saturday, the India women’s side produced a fantastic all-round show to hammer the hosts by 97 runs in what turned out to be one-sided contest.
After batting first in Nottingham, the Indian side, sans Harmanpreet Singh, scored a massive total of 210 runs in the stipulated 20 overs on back of a fabulous hundred from stand-in skipper Smriti Mandhana. Mandhana, who smashed her maiden century in the shortest format, played a swashbuckling innings of 112 runs off just 62 balls which included 15 boundaries and 3 massive sixes.
Apart from a terrific contribution from Mandhana, Harleen Deol also added 43 runs to help the side cross the 200-run mark. Shree Charani then excelled with the ball claiming four wickets and giving away just 12 runs while Radha Yadav and Deepti Sharma also made major contributions with 2 wickets apiece to restrict the English side for 113 all out in just 14.5 overs.
Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who did not take part in the opening T20I, is expected to participate in the second match as she took part in the training session on the eve of the Bristol T20I.
