New Delhi: Yashasvi Jaiswal scored his seventh Test century as India took control of the second Test against the West Indies with a dominating batting display in the second session of Day 1 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Jaiswal, who started cautiously in the first session, shifted gears in the afternoon session and completed the milestone in just 145 balls with aggressive cricket.

Jaiswal found able support from Sai Sudharsan, who played some sublime strokes en route to a second half-century.
At Tea, India reached 220 for 1 in 58 overs, having added 126 runs in the post-lunch session at a brisk pace. Jaiswal was not out on 111 while Sudharsan was unbeaten on 71. The left-handed duo has added 162 runs in 243 balls for the second wicket.
West Indies’ only chance in a toiling session came in the 52nd over when Jomel Warrican gave Sudharsan a lifeline on 58 after dropping a relatively easy chance at mid-wicket.
Jaiswal joins elite list
Jaiswal’s superb knock put him in an elite list of players, including Javed Miandad, Graeme Smith, Alastair Cook, and Kane Williamson, who have scored seven centuries before turning 24
Only three players – Don Bradman (12), Sachin Tendulkar (11), and Garfield Sobers (9) – had scored more tons before turning 24 in Test history.
Since making his debut in 2023, Jaiswal’s seven centuries are more than all other opening batters (combined) have scored (6).
After picking up KL Rahul (38) before lunch, West Indies bowlers toiled hard in a wicketless afternoon session and look destined to chase more leather in the last session as well.
Earlier, India skipper Shubman Gill won his first toss as skipper and opted to bat in the second Test of the two-match series. India retained the same playing XI that had won the first Test in Ahmedabad by an innings and 140 runs last week.
Meanwhile, Roston Chase’s West Indies made two changes, replacing Brandon King and Johann Layn with Tevin Imlach and Anderson Phillip in their playing XI.
