But before the match against South Africa in Super-8, captain Suryakumar Yadav told that Tilak has received orders from the team to bat in a special way.
Tilak’s slow batting is under question
Ishan Kishan so far in this World Cup for Team India, Captain Suryakumar Yadav And Shivam Dubey has continuously contributed well. Hardik Pandya has also played one or two strong innings. But the performance of two batsmen has troubled and surprised a lot. While explosive opener Abhishek Sharma has been out for 0 in 3 consecutive innings, Tilak Verma scored 25-25 runs in 3 consecutive innings, while scored 31 runs in the fourth innings.
Tilak’s scores are small but what is even more disturbing is his strike rate. His strike rate against America was 156 but then it was 119 against Namibia, 104 against Pakistan and only 114 against Netherlands. Tilak’s performance has been completely different from the kind of batting philosophy that Team India has adopted in this format since the last T20 World Cup. Especially after being successful in scoring runs quickly in the powerplay, he is continuously struggling against the spinners, which is becoming a problem for Team India. The team’s scoring rate is coming down and the opposing teams are seen taking advantage of it.
Tilak is following the orders of Team India
In such a situation, questions are being raised again and again that why is Tilak batting like this? Regarding this, Surya revealed that the team has given him a special message. In the press conference before the match, the captain said, “I have told him, the team management has told him that he has to bat like this. If one wicket falls, then of course he can bat in the powerplay in his own style. But as soon as 2 wickets fall, he will have to play a little cautiously, make a partnership, take it till the 10th over, then we have enough strength, which can destroy the bowlers.”
When Surya was asked whether Sanju Samson could not be used in place of Tilak, the captain expressed surprise at this and said that everything is going well. However, he also admitted that Tilak himself would not be satisfied with his performance so far because he had set high standards for himself. But despite this, Suryakumar Yadav made it clear that he or the team management is not in any way worried about Tilak Verma’s form or style of playing.
