South Africa beat India: South Africa made a strong comeback in the ODI series and defeated Team India by 4 wickets in the second match. After Ranchi, there was a very high scoring match in Raipur and this time Team India failed to register victory even after scoring 358 runs. With the help of centuries from Rituraj Gaikwad and Virat Kohli, India had scored a big score while batting first but South Africa gave a befitting reply on the basis of Aiden Markram’s strong century. Then India won the record chase on the basis of half-century innings of Matthew Britzky and Dewald Brewis.

Kohli-Rituraj’s memorable centuries

After Ranchi, in Raipur too, Team India had to bat first after losing the toss and once again made a big score. in the second consecutive match Virat Kohli Played a memorable innings. Kohli (102) scored his 53rd century in ODIs. But the star of the Indian innings was Ruturaj Gaikwad (105), who scored his first century in ODI cricket, that too in just 77 balls. There was also an excellent partnership of 195 runs between the two for the third wicket. Whereas captain KL Rahul played an inning of 66 runs in just 43 balls in the last overs.

However, Team India could have reached around 400 runs but the slow innings of Ravindra Jadeja (24 runs, 27 balls), Washington Sundar (1 run, 8 balls) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (22 runs, 38 balls) prevented this from happening. Especially Team India scored only 74 runs in the last 10 overs. Due to this, Team India could reach only 358 runs. This was the same score which Team India had made in Mohali in 2019 and despite that, Australia had chased it. This time too the story remained the same.

Markram also responded with a century

South Africa had lost the wicket of Quinton de Kock (8) early but on the other hand, vice-captain Aiden Markram (110) remained a problem for the Indian team and started putting Team India in trouble by making a century partnership with captain Temba Bavuma. During this time, his catch was also missed on the score of 53, which was heavy on Team India. After this, he died after scoring a century in 88 balls. When the Indian team got their wicket, there was hope of a comeback but Matthew Bretzky and Dewald Brewis made a stormy partnership and kept South Africa in the match.

South Africa won with the innings of Brevis-Britzki

Brewis played an inning of 54 runs in just 34 balls, while Bretzky (68) also scored an excellent half-century. Team India definitely took some wickets in the last overs, but like in the last match, here too Corbin Bosch (29) came at the end and scored runs quickly and took South Africa to victory in 49.2 overs. This is South Africa’s biggest run chase in India. With this the series is tied at 1-1 and now the decision will be taken in the last ODI match in Visakhapatnam on 6th December.
