There has been such a ‘storm’ of cricket in Ahmedabad that the prices of everything from hotels to flights have skyrocketed. The situation is such that even if you plan a small vacation, you are getting a sleeping room only for one night. Hotels have become so expensive that cricket fans are holding their heads.
How expensive is hotel rent in Ahmedabad?
There is currently ‘looting’ going on in the hotels of Ahmedabad. The condition of hotels is such that the room fare which used to be available for Rs 9,000 on normal days, has now reached Rs 2.01 lakh in hotels like Taj Skyline. The biggest thing is that there is a separate GST of Rs 36,000 on it. That means the cost of staying for one night is around Rs 2.37 lakh. Normal rooms which used to cost Rs 5-8 thousand are now available for Rs 20-30 thousand. The rates of rooms starting from Rs 5,000 have reached Rs 15,000 to Rs 50,000. There is such a buzz about the final of the T20 World Cup that about 80% of the 10,000 rooms in the city have already been booked.
Flight ticket broke record
Not only hotels, even flying has become very expensive now. The tickets which used to be available for Rs 5,000 from Delhi, Mumbai or Bangalore to Ahmedabad are now being asked for Rs 30,000. The limit was reached when the fare for the flight coming from London crossed Rs 1.2 lakh.
Fans also made arrangements to watch India-New Zealand match
Seeing so much inflation, cricket fans have also found a smart way. People are staying in nearby Gandhinagar instead of Ahmedabad, where rates are slightly lower. Many fans from Mumbai and Rajasthan are leaving by car in the morning, will watch the match in the evening and will return home at night. This will save lakhs of rupees for the hotel.
Railway becomes ‘Messiah’ for cricket fans
Railways has given a big relief to the fans amid expensive flights. In view of the crowd, special trains have been run. Superfast special train will run from Mumbai’s Bandra Terminus on Saturday night (12:05 am). The special train will leave for Sabarmati from New Delhi on Saturday night (11:45 pm).
T20 World Cup Final: There will be a touch of glamor in the closing ceremony
The final match between India and New Zealand will start at 7 pm, but the real fun will start at 5:30 pm. Ricky Martin, Sukhveer and ‘Dandiya Queen’ Falguni Pathak will enthrall their performances in the closing ceremony.
