India had to face defeat by an innings and 78 runs in that match too. Then in 1979, India played the third match under the captaincy of S Venkataraghavan. In that Test, the English team defeated the Indian team by an innings and 83 runs. In 1986, Team India played a Test at Edgbaston under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. This match was a draw and according to the records, Kapil is the first Indian captain to draw a Test at Edgbaston. According to statistics, he is also the most successful Indian captain at Edgbaston.

After this, Team India stayed away from the Edgbaston ground for 10 years. Then in 1996, Team India played a Test match at this ground under the captaincy of Mohammad Azharuddin. In that match, England defeated India by eight wickets. In 2011, when India played a Test at Edgbaston under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, England won by an innings and 242 runs. In 2018, India played a Test at Edgbaston under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, and the Indian team lost by 31 runs. On India’s tour of England in 2021-22, the Indian team played four Tests under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, but the fifth Test was postponed due to Corona. It was played in August 2022. By then Kohli had stepped down from the captaincy. In such a situation, Jasprit Bumrah captained Team India and India lost this Test by seven wickets.
