IND vs ENG: Spirited Siraj script epic Oval turnaround as India force series stalemate

New Delhi: Team India defeated England by 6 runs in the fifth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at the Oval in London on Sunday, August 4. The Men in Blue levelled the five-match series at 2-2.

The hosts needed 35 runs to win the match on Day 5, and Jamie Overton smashed Prasidh Krishna for two consecutive boundaries in the opening over. Mohammed Siraj dismissed Jamie Smith for 2 with a short of length delivery which wobbled away, and the batter tried to charge the bowler but ended up edging it to the keeper.

The Indian bowlers made full use of the overcast conditions to trouble the English batters. Siraj picked up his fourth wicket of the match by removing Jamie Overton with a nip-backer. The batter shuffled across, but the ball hit him on the pads.

Prasidh removed Josh Tongue on a duck with a yorker delivery, which angled in at great speed. Atkinson smashed a maximum in Siraj’s over long-on to put some pressure back on the visitors.
