New Delhi: England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bat in the third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against India at Lord’s in London on Thursday, July 10. The Men in Blue made one change in their playing XI from the Edgbaston Test, Jasprit Bumrah replaced Prasidh Krishna in the squad.
Bumrah returned to the team after sitting out the second match at Birmingham, while England pacer Jofra Archer will play his first Test since February 2021. He replaced Josh Tongue in the playing XI. The five-match series is levelled at 1-1 after England won the first Test by five wickets at Headingley and India won the Edgbaston Test by 336 runs.
The Indian skipper Shubman Gill became the first batter to register a 250-plus and a 150-plus score in the same Test match. He played two brilliant knocks, scoring 269 in the first innings before a 161-run knock in the second. His brilliant innings helped the Men in Blue set England a target of 608, which the Three Lions failed to chase and were bundled out for just 271.
India’s bowling attack is looking much stronger after the inclusion of Jasprit Bumrah in the Lord’s Test. At the same time, the new-ball specialist Akash Deep also provides a great variety to the side. Akash Deep stepped up in the absence of Bumrah and took his maiden 10-wicket haul as Team India levelled the series, heading into the Lord’s Test.
