A daily wage laborer from Mirzapur received an income tax notice of ₹17.4 crore. It is alleged that his former owner made transactions worth crores by opening bank accounts in his name. The victim has complained of fraud to the police and investigation is ongoing.
uA daily wage laborer in Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh was shocked when he received an income tax notice of Rs 17,40,12,207. He was surprised to see such a huge amount written for the first time in his life. He says that he is somehow running his family with small earnings. Now because of this notice, he is not able to go to work and is making rounds of offices to prove himself innocent.
Account opened for salary
This case pertains to Shivdhani, a daily wage laborer living in Kanhaipur area of Sant Nagar. Shivdhani earlier worked at a battery shop in Ghoraval in Sonbhadra district. He told that he worked there loading and unloading batteries for about 8 years. At the same time, the shop owner had got two accounts opened in his name in Kotak Mahindra Bank and Utkarsh Small Finance Bank, saying that he would deposit his salary in the bank. But, he never received his salary in his bank account, it was always given in cash.
Tax notices started coming home
Shivdhani told that after eight years, the owner fired him from the job citing losses in the business. After this he went to Mumbai in search of work. For the last six months, income tax notices started coming to his house in Mirzapur. At first he did not understand anything. When he came to know that it was a notice to pay tax, he went to his old boss. The owner gave notice and promised to take action, but the process of receiving notices did not stop. Meanwhile, one day the Income Tax Department team reached his house.
Monthly earning only Rs 8,000
When the Income Tax officials came to her house, Shivdhani came to know that transactions worth crores had been made from her bank account and hence a notice was sent to her to pay tax of Rs 17,40,12,207. Shivdhani alleges that when he told the officials that he did not know anything about this, the officials threatened him not to tell this to anyone else. Shivdhani says that he does not have any land of his own and he lives in an incomplete house built on government land. His monthly income is only Rs 8,000, with which he supports his family. Frustrated, he has complained to the Superintendent of Police (SP). According to the report of News 18, the police has started investigation against the accused owner on the complaint of the worker.
