Incessant rains in Solan have led to the closure of 23 link roads. The Parwanoo-Dharampur section of National Highway-5 faced minor traffic disruptions with two lanes closed following landslides.

At Gujjarhatti village in Nalagarh sub-division a primary school was got vacated by the administration after landslide occurred in its rear portion as well as along a side. The staff and students were shifted to a panchayat bhawan along with the entire paraphernalia as a precaution to avert any untoward incident.

The local administration also got vacated the house and two shops and directed those residing in its vicinity to remain alert. Naib tehsildar Krishan Chauhan took stock of the situation along with the panchayat pradhan. They directed the villagers to inform them in case of any eventuality.

All private and government educational institutions in the district were closed today following an orange alert issued by the weather department. With prediction for heavy rain, landslides and cloudburst, all aanganwadis and vocational institutes were brought under the ambit of this order.

In view of the imminent waterlogging and closure of link roads, the Deputy Commissioner, Solan, has directed the students to observe a holiday while asking teachers and the administrative staff to report for duty.

As many as 23 link road – 10 in Solan, four in Arki and Kasauli each and 5 in Nalagarh – have been closed owing to landslides while 172 distribution transformers have been damaged across the district. The maximum number of 80 transformers were disrupted in Nalagarh, followed by 55 in Baddi, 20 in Kasauli and 17 in Arki after incessant rains which lashed the area in the last 24 hours.

In Kasauli sub-division, roads like Bhojnagar-Chakki Mor, Parwanoo-Kasauli, Patta Beja-Masoolkhana, Patta-Goela and Chandi-Ghyan road were closed during the day today.

The Public Works Department mobilised its men and machinery to clear the debris.

While 9 mm rain lashed Kasauli, Dharampur received 7 mm rain and Solan 2 mm since last evening.

Water supply was suspended in various parts of Kasauli and Baddi sub-division this morning either due to damage to the infrastructure or excess turbidity in water.
