The inaugural SuperNova Football Championship (SNFC) concluded on Sunday at Depot18 in Bengaluru, marking a successful launch of Capri Sports’ Nova Sports initiative.
Over two days, schools competed in the U13, U15 and U17 categories in a tournament designed entirely around girls’ football, including the pitches, footballs and surrounding activities, according to a release.
Players, coaches and families attending the event experienced a matchday atmosphere that set a new standard for school-level girls’ football, featuring multiple pitches, a professionally organised competition format and an environment comparable to elite-level football.
Both schools and parents were notably impressed by the scale of the organisation and the careful attention to detail throughout the event.
A total of 69 matches were played across the two days, with 222 goals scored. The quality of play was described as unrivalled at this level, with all teams competing vigorously until the final whistle, resulting in tightly contested matches across every age group through to the finals.
In the U13 category, Anvesha Pandey of Greenwood High earned the Top Goalscorer award with 20 goals. Tanvi Maheshwari of Headstart Academy was named Best Goalkeeper, and A S Mithra Hayathi of Greenwood High was awarded Most Valuable Player.
In the U15 category, Aayushi Karanth from Greenwood High was the Top Goalscorer with 16 goals. Anaisha Gupta of Headstart Academy received the Best Goalkeeper award, and Richa Bhatta of Greenwood High was declared Most Valuable Player.
In the U17 category, Kakulavaerapu Krishna Manogya of DPS Bangalore East was the Top Goalscorer with 10 goals. Preksha of DPS Bangalore East was named Best Goalkeeper, and Vaishnavi M of M.S. Dhoni School, Hosur, was adjudged Most Valuable Player.
Indian women’s national team footballer Dalima Chhibber attended the event as a special guest and expressed her enthusiasm for the exposure the young players were receiving. She stated, “It has been amazing to see the energy, enthusiasm and excitement that every young girl has brought to the Championship. I think Capri Sports deserves a lot of credit for creating a platform like this and investing in the development of girls’ football. They are curious to learn, eager to explore what football can offer them, and, most importantly, they are not afraid to dream big.”
Dalima added, “As a player who has been on this journey for many years, it has been incredibly special to be part of this experience. The level of football has been impressive, with some standout performances, and this platform gives the girls an opportunity to showcase their skills, understand where they are in their development and where they can improve. It is a great opportunity for young girls to come together, learn from each other, make friends and discover where football can take them.”
