With the onset of winter, along with dandruff on the head, the skin of the face, lips and heels start becoming dry, but the skin of some people is so dry that the skin of the entire body becomes dry and dandruff gets accumulated. The medical term for dry skin is called xeroderma. This is a condition in which along with the formation of white scales on the skin, dandruff starts falling and cracks start appearing in the skin. There can be many reasons behind this, one of which is using harsh body wash, face wash or soap. In winter, the skin of your face as well as your entire body becomes dry, so to get rid of it, some small things should be kept in mind.
Most people pay attention to the skin of the face and hands and feet, but ignore parts like the back and stomach, due to which the moisture of the skin in these places reduces and dryness can increase in winter. By making good changes in your daily routine habits, you can maintain internal hydration of your skin. Apart from this, external care of the skin is also necessary to avoid dryness.
Do not bathe with hot water
If the skin is very dry then avoid bathing with hot water, because it reduces the natural oil of the skin. Due to this, dryness of the skin can increase further. Try to take bath with normal temperature water or use very lukewarm water. In winter, reduce your bathing time a bit, like if you are able to take bath in 30 minutes then reduce it by 10 minutes.
Extra moisturize the skin
If the skin remains very dry then it is important to moisturize it more. Apply moisturizer all over your body immediately after bathing. Choose only a good quality moisturizer which maintains moisture in the skin for at least 12 hours. Every night before sleeping, massage the skin with coconut oil or sunflower seeds oil. This reduces dryness and the skin does not appear stretched.
Avoid rubbing the skin
While bathing, do not rub your skin too much with the scrubber and also avoid using too much scrub. If itching is happening then apply moisturizer, scratching can cause rashes. Along with this, use a soft towel. Do not use someone else’s clothes or towel.
keep the body hydrated
People drink less water in winter compared to summer. Due to this also the skin starts becoming dry. Drink plenty of water. Along with this, you can make healthy drinks like coconut water a part of your routine. Start your morning by drinking water. Apart from this, include liquid items in the diet.
Make sour fruits a part of your diet
Most people think that eating citrus fruits in winter will cause cough, but it does not happen. You can include orange and lemon in your diet, because they are a source of Vitamin C and help in keeping the skin healthy. Apart from this, guava is also a good source of vitamin K. Nuts containing good fats like almonds and walnuts can be included in the diet. Apart from this, if you are seeing any serious symptoms in the skin then you should contact a dermatologist.
