Air india
The black day of 12 June 2025 left a twitch in the heart of every Indian. Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, flying from Ahmedabad to London, cursed by hitting the hostel of BJ Medical College in Meghani Nagar in just 32 seconds. This accident snatched 241 lives in the plane and its echo is still in our ears. It is now reported that Air India is preparing a new deal to buy the aircraft of the same Boeing Company. According to the Economic Times report, Air India is preparing to buy a full fleet of Boeing 777 aircraft by taking a loan of $ 200 million.
Air India will take a loan of ₹ 1,660 crore
Air India, headed by the Tata group, is planning to take a bank loan of about Rs 1660 crore ($ 200 million) to buy a fleet of 777 aircraft from an US aircraft leasing company. According to the report, this loan is being arranged through AI Fleet Services IFSC Limited in Air India’s gift city. The company works to buy and lease aircraft for Air India and its low-cost airline Air India Express.
The matter was closed after the crash of Boeing 787
Sources said that the conversation for this loan started earlier this year but the process slowed down after Air India’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft crashed in Ahmedabad last month. However, now once again the conversation has gained momentum. Nevertheless, there is still a possibility of change in the terms of the deal. The price of this loan may be connected to the Servid Overnight Financing Rate (SOFR).
According to the information, Air India is already operating the six Boeing 777 aircraft, which is already operating. These aircraft are 11 to 13 years old and mainly fly on Indo-US routes. According to data from the Fluetrdar 24 website, these aircraft are used for long distance flights. The aim of the company is to strengthen its fleet by purchasing these aircraft, so that the flights do not come down until the delivery of new aircraft.
Air India struggling with less aircraft crisis
Let me tell you that Air India is facing many challenges in the expansion of its new aircraft. Delivery of new aircraft is delayed due to supply chain problems. Apart from this, there are problems in buying aircraft from the open market. Tata Group acquired Air India in January 2022. Since then, the company has ordered 570 new aircraft from Airbus and Boeing. Not only this, Air India 50 Boeing 737 is trying to speed up the delivery of 737 Max aircraft, which were earlier mainly for Chinese Airlines.
