In jolt for Congress, Haryana state working president resigns after Rajya Sabha polls

New Delhi: Haryana Congress Working President Ram Kishan Gujjar rocked the state’s politics after resigning from the party. The move came after voting in the Rajya Sabha elections on Monday, March 16.

Gujjar alleged that party workers within Congress and outside the party are deliberately targeting Shaili Chaudhary and accusing her of a cross-vote during the Rajya Sabha elections. Shaili is an MLA from Naraingarh and the wife of Ram Krishan Gujjar.

The former Congress Working President clarified that Shaili is a loyal party worker, and with her name being involved in cross-voting, it’s a direct intention to defame her. Gujjar resigned from his post in protest against the false propaganda and insult against Shaili.

Gujjar is a close confidante of former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, and with his resignation, internal strife within the Congress party is clearly visible.

Earlier, Congress shifted its MLAs to Himachal Pradesh to avoid horse-trading in the Rajya Sabha elections. Despite the move, cross-voting surfaced during the elections, and in the loss of suspected MLAs, Shaili’s name was included to support the BJP-backed candidates.

Currently, no official statement from the senior Congress leaders or the high command has come after Gujjar’s resignation. The former Congress member is considered a strong pillar of the Hooda camp, but with this development, questions are being raised about the strength of the party, and it will definitely hit Congress in the future political dynamics, especially in Haryana.

Opposition parties called Gujjar’s resignation a ‘breaking ship’ for the Congress Party.
