Weather conditions across northern India are expected to take a sharp turn as the India Meteorological Department has issued a widespread alert for rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and even hail in several states starting April 5. The sudden change is being linked to an active western disturbance, which is already influencing weather patterns in the region. Authorities have advised people to remain cautious, as strong winds and lightning could disrupt daily life and pose safety risks.
Changing Weather Pattern in North India
Over the past few days, parts of North India have already witnessed cloudy skies, gusty winds, and scattered rainfall. Experts say this is just the beginning. The western disturbance is expected to intensify, bringing more unstable weather conditions over the next few days.
While the rain may provide temporary relief from rising temperatures, it could also lead to crop damage, waterlogging, and travel disruptions in urban areas.
IMD State-Wise Weather Alert For April 5
According to IMD forecasts, several states will be affected between April 5 and April 8.
Delhi NCR: weather is expected to remain unstable, with rain and thunderstorms likely after April 6. Strong winds and lightning may also occur, raising concerns for commuters and farmers.

Rajasthan may experience dust storms, thunderstorms, and winds reaching speeds of 40–50 km/h, along with chances of hail in some areas.
Himachal Pradesh, rain and lightning are expected in both plains and hilly regions, while higher altitudes could even see light snowfall.
Jammu and Kashmir may face heavy rain and snowfall in higher regions, with risks of landslides and flash floods in vulnerable areas.
Parts of West Bengal are also likely to receive thunderstorms and rain due to moisture from the Bay of Bengal.
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh is under alert for rain and gusty winds, especially in cities like Bhopal and Satna.
In Uttarakhand, several districts could witness heavy rain along with strong winds and lightning strikes.
Impact on Daily Life and Farmers
The sudden weather activity is likely to impact agriculture, especially standing crops. Farmers are being advised to take precautions to avoid losses. Urban areas may face traffic disruptions and waterlogging due to sudden heavy showers.
Advisory for Residents
The IMD has urged people to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid open areas, and take shelter in safe locations. With lightning and strong winds expected, caution is essential over the next few days.
