Ikea’s first offline store opened in Delhi, opening in this mall

Sweden’s well-known home decor and furniture company Ikea has now made its presence in Delhi too. Opened at Pacific Mall, Tagore Garden in West Delhi, this city store is spread over 15,000 sq ft. More than 2,000 products are placed on the display here, out of which about 800 items are available to buy immediately.

This is the company’s first offline store in Delhi but in March 2025, IKEA started selling online in Delhi NCR and entered this market. Now the company is making access to customers through e-commerce as well as big stores, city stores and plans and order points under its omnichanel strategy.

Ikea got entry from Hyderabad

Ikea started its retail business in India from Hyderabad in the year 2018. After this, the company opened stores in Mumbai and Bengaluru. Now the sequel to expansion includes cities like Noida, Gurugram, Lucknow and Chandigarh.

The new store opened in Delhi is smaller in size than big stores in Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad, but is not far behind in terms of facilities. Large stores are usually spread over 4-5 million sq ft and are located in the outskirts of cities, while city stores are built inside the mall to easily reach the customers.

Ikea growing rapidly in India

Ikea India CEO Patrick Antony believes that there is a possibility of tremendous growth in India for the next 30 years. The reason is the country’s rapid economic growth, youth population and growing consumers. He said that the company is working towards increasing the purchase of products from the local level from the current 30 percent to 50 percent in the next 5 years. Antony said, Ikea has always seen great possibilities in India. India’s retail market is one of the biggest development opportunities in the future. We have been buying products from here for the last 50 years.

According to Patrick Antony, Ikea in India is now in the second phase of its development. The company is working on omnichanel strategy including all the big stores, small city stores and online sales. In FY 2023-24, the revenue of Ikea India was ₹ 1,852.7 crore, with about 30 percent of the online sales stake. Antony says, sales accelerate when we combine online and offline experience. This mix has become a big reason for success for us.

Better to buy from physical store

Ikea believes that there is a different experience of shopping in physical stores. Here customers can not only look and touch products, but can also choose them better for their home. Despite the high rate of rent, the company says that the operational cost in India is comparatively low and there are major possibilities in the market. For this reason, the company is working on a plan to open stores in many new cities of the country in the coming years.
