IIT Mumbai Graduate Drunk Incident: A very shameful incident came to light on an international flight coming from San Francisco to Delhi. According to the information, a 25-year-old youth, who is a graduate from IIT Mumbai and earns about 5 lakh dollars (about Rs 4.39 crore annually) in an AI startup in Silicon Valley, got so drunk that he wet himself during the flight. The incident occurred on October 18 when the man was returning to India to celebrate Diwali. This entire story was shared by Gaurav Kheterpal, Founder and CEO of Vanshiv Technologies, on the social media platform X (earlier Twitter), after which the matter went viral.
Drank 11 beers in flight, then felt bad
According to Gaurav Kheterpal’s post, this passenger sitting next to him was continuously drinking beer. He gulped down about 11 beers. When the flight attendant told him that no more than 3 beers could be given to a passenger, he asked Gaurav and his team (which was three people) to give their beers to him. According to Kheterpal, he lost consciousness within a few hours after drinking heavily and then wet his pants. Due to the smell we had to change seats for some time. Afterwards he neither talked to us nor made eye contact.
Salary of 4 crores, but no control over myself
Gaurav Kheterpal wrote in his post that he is surprised that a person who is earning Rs 4 crore every year and is living in a place like Silicon Valley, cannot control such basic things. He wrote – ‘When will Indians stop embarrassing themselves and the country’s image with such actions?’ Read the post below-

Users are asking questions on social media – Why did you give beer?
As soon as the post went viral, users on social media also raised questions on the role of Gaurav Kheterpal. One user wrote, why did you and your team give your beer to the attendant when he refused? His action was wrong, but you also took part in worsening the situation. Another wrote, if the attendant had set the limit, then why did you break the rules and give him beer? This is not just about Indians, it happens everywhere. It is wrong to link everything with national shame. Some people even expressed doubt on the veracity of this incident. One user said, this story seems false, fabricated to get engagement.

A similar incident had happened in a flight coming from New York to Delhi in 2022.
This is not the first time that a passenger’s actions have created an uproar in flight. Mumbai businessman Shekhar Mishra was accused of urinating on a 70-year-old woman while intoxicated on a flight coming from New York to Delhi in 2022. Later, after this incident, Air India had banned Mishra for 30 days and submitted a report to DGCA. This incident once again reminds us that drinking and responsibility should go together. Whether one is a millionaire or a common traveller, decency and restraint are necessary in air travel. A few hours of intoxication can cost a lifetime of respect.
