The Supreme Court on Thursday slammed a petition filed by an IIM graduate, Ravi Kumar, who sought registration of First Information Reports (FIR) against 6 judges who passed judgments against him and initiation of their prosecution.

The SC Bench called the plea filed and argued by Kumar in person as “scandalous petition” However, after making several oral remarks in a lighter vein, Justice Surya Kant-led bench agreed to hear the plea next week

Bench even appoints Senior Adv S Muralidhar (Ex Orissa HC CJ) as amicus curiae to assist the court saying “we are not able to understand the issue you are raising clearly”

What Happened Inside The Courtoom?

The SC Bench was taken by surprise by a petition filed by one IIM-graduate Ravi Kumar, who sought registration of an FIR against 6 sitting and former judges of High Courts and Tribunal Members against him.

SC Judge Justice Surya Kant: “Tell us under which provision of law, judges of High Court and members of Tribunal, who have given judgment against you, are liable to be prosecuted…after filing frivolous, perverse petitions and getting dismissal orders how can you seek FIR? We cannot call it anything else other than as a scandalous petition..we can also see contempt action against you”

Petitioner: “See there’s no remedy for an ordinary person suffering in such circumstances.”

Justice Kant ( a bit sarcastically): Ordinary person?? But you are not an ordinary person…you are an extraordinary person. You are IIM graduate. How many people in this country have this qualification? You are the rarest of the rare. You caliber is very high..in fact we have the honour of hearing you .we need to engage counsel for our assistance…we will keep the matter for next week. We appoint senior advocate Dr S Muralidhar as amicus curiae to assist us.Let all paperbooks related to the plea be handed over to the amicus”
